• Could you be a Friend of Avail?

There are two groups of people who can participate in this new and exciting opportunity: those who are presently in mission or have returned home and those with an interest or general curiosity in the challenges and needs of mission.

Hello, I am Paul Bach

After working in Liverpool for thirty years as a teacher and education administrator, the Lord called me to work in mission administration. This took me to China for seven years, and afterwards to Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore for two years.

I returned to live on the Wirral and worship at the Longcroft Church. My aim is to give simple pastoral care to any who come across my path. An avid and eclectic reader, I also enjoy writing and speaking, travelling, the countryside, people, classical music, theatre and cats.

I am excited to develop Friends of Avail as it brings together my interests and experience. I look forward to getting to know and support many of you through this initiative.

What can I offer?

As a friend of Avail

  • A friendly ear, a few words of interest or advice
  • Professional expertise
  • A testimony
  • Friendship
  • Contribution in a general forum
  • Help in preparation to serve overseas
  • Help with returning mission workers and families

Our Aims

The purpose of Friends of Avail is to provide a means of contact between current and past members, others who support the mission, and Avail itself. In particular, we seek to:

  • maintain contact between Avail and mission workers who return home from the field
  • develop a network of past and present Avail mission workers and supporters at home
  • provide a forum in which skills and experience can be shared, with the aim of helping both current mission workers and those who are preparing for mission in the future
  • give returning mission workers the opportunity to draw on the experience of those who have already returned, especially with regard to issues of ‘re-entry’
  • encourage the involvement of all who are interested in mission but who are unable to go to the field

How can I be involved?

Whether you are a new worker preparing for mission, a worker already on the field, or a supporter in a home country, we would love to enlist your help in any of the following areas:

  • Communication: through e-mail, phone, Skype, etc. – anything from a friendly chat to specialised/professional advice.
  • Help in the home country: financial advice; legal advice; education; producing or distributing newsletters; acting as an intermediary with agencies in the home country; shopping and mailing; raising prayer support; caring for a mission worker’s home, and so on.
  • Advice about the mission field: experience and/or knowledge of mission, or of a specific language, country, people group, religion, etc.
  • Re-entry: support for workers returning home; practical help in resettling; issues of culture shock and reintegration.
